Who are Comrie Tree Surgery?

After working together for some time under the banner of “TristramTree”, Comrie locals Tristram and Alisdair decided to combine their experience in arboriculture and forestry to found Comrie Tree Surgery Ltd in September 2024.

While both of us share a passion for the outdoors, be it mountaineering, mountain biking, etc, our experience in different facets of forestry and extreme environment working make us a very good match.

It is a pleasure to do what we do in the heart of Scotland, and being able to climb and work in some of the most amazing gardens and estates in the country is something we never take for granted. Quite simply, trees, forests, gardens, and their management are our life!

One of our other goal’s as a business is to provide safe and exciting employment opportunities for our local cutters, plant operators and climbers, helping keep our local rural economy healthy, in undoubtedly tough times politically. We have close ties with other local businesses in the area, and would always support local businesses where we can.

We look forward to building our small business based on hard work and integrity. We take a huge amount of pride in our work, and we are really looking forward to offering great value, high quality tree care, and forestry services in the years to come! We know how much your gardens and green space mean to you, and we know the value of your timber!

Hello from us at ComrieTreeSurgery.co.uk 🪓🌲🌳🪵 We’ve been flat out the past few weeks with many different tasks, from hazardous tree removals, heavy reductions, stump grinding, and lots of pre-winter trimming and tidying. This does mean I’ve neglected posting any photos for a while… here is some snaps from the past couple of weeks. Now we have had a proper frost, from now until Feb-March is the best time of year for just about all tree work, most of our broadleafs are dormant (or about to be). Hello from us at ComrieTreeSurgery.co.uk 🪓🌲🌳🪵 It takes a skilled climber to get to the tips to make cuts, as Alisdair shows on today’s climb up a wonderful mature sycamore! A really good way of revitalising mature trees, and achieve more light through the canopy, is to thin the crown. This involves making small cuts near the tips, removing only roughly 1 in 5 small branches. The targets are those which are not benefitting the tree (for example shaded by other branches, or crossed/damaged branches). The result is a healthy crown, with a bonus of not stressing the tree too much, and encouraging unwanted stress growth. One of the more dangerous trees we have dealt with lately. A huge hemlock, bifurcated by a lightning strike a few weeks ago… Quite frankly, it’s a wonder it was still (mostly) upright!

Comrie Tree Surgery Ltd started trading at the beginning of the week, and we are looking forward to moving into our new yard in Comrie very soon… I’m really grateful to everyone who has supported me and my small team over the past couple of years, Im really proud of the team I’ve put together, and I’m really looking forward to finding out what the future holds!
